Call For Help: Does Anyone Know This Woman???

This post is totally unrelated to the subject of Tiny House Ontario.

When I was in school one of the students (a distant cousin really) was hit in the head with a ball in gym class and suffered total amnesia.  I remember how scary this was for her.  I know that 400 -600 people will read here today and hopefully share the link on FB social media and so on.  I know this is irregular and not what you hope to see here… but  if you don’t read, Halifax or Toronto newspapers, you may not see it, and I hope this community can help.

On Sept. 5, a woman, who calls herself Linda, walked into a downtown shelter, but could not remember anything about herself. She has since been transferred to an east-end shelter.

She is described as white, 5-foot-7, 55 to 60 year old, 150 pounds, with shoulder-length, straight blond hair and blue eyes.

When she arrived at the shelter, she wore a dark-blue jean jacket, black capri-style pants, black slip-on walking shoes, a pink bandana, white ankle socks, light-brown glasses and a pink watch.

Police have released a photograph of the woman and are asking the public to help identify her.

Anyone with information can call police at 416-808-5400.

Update October 13, 2012 – five weeks later and still nothing.

Update  November 23 – two and a half months later police wait for DNA to see if Linda is indeed Linda Hegg who is missing from Delaware.  What do you think?  Here are the photos to compare below.

Update December 18 – Linda Hegg is now at home with her family in Delaware.

Cloth Porch Adaptive

I am facing the awful Toronto traffic again this evening to head back to Tiny House Ontario.  I started a project last weekend and I am going to finish it up this weekend.

Project is: I decided to cover the cloth porch roof, 2×8 boards, 17 of them butting each other in order to keep the snow out in winter and rain out in summer.  I have a huge green tarp which I will use to cover the porch. I think it will be large enough to cover the top and two of the sides.  The other side I will close up with another small white tarp because this will allow some light in.

I think the cloth porch will be a good makeshift shed to bring in items for winter such as the bike, the BBQ and wheelbarrow.   It should also serve as a good spot to put a small wood stove and some wood too.  If I find a Tiny wood stove (cheap) and figure out how to hook it up safely.  My cousin Sandy, who is an outdoorsman says that there are Tiny stoves designed to heat a tent and this should work to heat up the porch and house too.  I was thinking that a few bales of straw would probably help to shelter it a little more as well, but of course then I would have the problem about what to do with these afterward, so I think I will just tarp it up and hope for the best.

A stove will mean poking a hole in the cloth.  I am okay with this because the front cloth is on its last legs now.  It has many small holes in it and some big ones too that I sewed up.  I already got replacement cloth for the porch when it when the $2.metre sale was on in the spring, so when the tarp comes off the new cloth can go up.

I understand that by covering the roof on the South side of the house that I will be giving up a lot of light in the house; however, if this goes well, it will mean that THO will be used a lot more this winter.  Keeping warm is more essential than light, particularly now that I have the 12v system.

I have to add, that the hilarity of how this will look is not lost on me… tarp room with a wood stove, BBQ, motorbike, makeshift kitchen, garden tools, and woodpile attached to the house, sounds like the epiphany of red-neck additions.  Seems like a great place to stop by with the sleds and drink out of a wineskin.  It is making my rural heart sing!

A Beautiful & Practical Addition

I have  been thinking a lot about space at Tiny House Ontario and thought, if I could get rid of the table and two chairs I would have a lot more space to move around.  I looked all over for a table that is the right height for eating and playing cards at the sofa as well as for writing and painting.  I could not find any small tables with drop leaves that are sturdy enough to take daily use.

As you all know, I have a very talented cousin, Vernie, who can build anything.  So I drew up some plans, and he gave it some thought (since I had no idea how it had to be built) and he just finished building a perfectly sublime, sturdy, functional, little drop leaf butternut table for me.

I picked it up today.  I can’t tell you how gorgeous it is, so I took photos.  I makes me really happy to have the opportunity to have Vernie and his family close by, but it is wonderful to have the opportunity to have him build me these custom pieces for my Tiny House.  Having his art around me, makes me feel so totally at home.

Too Goofy!

I was taking some photos around Tiny House Ontario while the dogs were in the cloth porch.

They did not like being on the other side much!  I took a photo just to see if it would work through the cloth porch.  Imp, Minnie and Rudigrrr Wolf put up a real fuss.

Imp and Rudigrrrr Wolf had to be photographed again through the sheer side, and I share with you because it is far too goofy to keep to myself.

Sunny Honey Bunny

Waking up at Tiny House Ontario is really nice, particularly when the dogs are there and not in a hurry to get out of bed but rather prefer a little cuddle and a tummy rub.  This morning was one such beginning.   Honey Bunny (the red chihuahua) loves to sit in the sun, I often find her chasing sunny spots around as they move throughout the day.  She was so sweet and cuddly this morning.

My husband made a surprise visit down because there are a couple of jobs that require two people’s hands.  I had mentioned this problem, so he drove down with the four dogs just to help me.  Thanks Hj!  We have been doing some work today, but stopped now for a baked potato and to use the internet because we needed to take a quick trip to Rona for some wood and lemon oil.

This photo is the sun coming in from the West – where in the morning it comes through the East.  Still this is, essentially, what I wake up to at THO.

The wonderful painting on the dresser is by Kingston artist Geoff Smith.  I purchased this from him a few months ago and have not yet decided how to frame it.  I loved the bridge, life seems to always be a series of going through things.  The painting seemed to me to be a material visual of this.  How would you frame this one, if it were in your Tiny House?
