Stay Puft Sunset

Last night after the radio show, Shannon and I were leaving the studio to catch the Glenora Ferry back to the mainland.  When we got outside we were treated to a magical sky that included a psychadellic Stay Puft Marshmallow Man peeking over the clouds…  Do you see him? LOL!

I took a number of photos because it was so gorgeous out.  Here is the best one of the night.  I think I am going to paint it.

Man of Stone

I went to the quarry today and picked up some more shale.  There is an awesome guy who works there.  He is as cute as a button with a big warm smile.  Not surprisingly, due to his work he is strong as an ox!  He is thoughtful too.  Just because he knows I am coming, he is collecting sheets for me while he is digging with his giant tractor like thing.  You gotta love a Canadian man!  He had it all set up and ready, so when I went today there was no climbing.  It was all set out in neat little piles and ready to go.

As a matter of fact he helped me lift the stone up into the old truck!  Awesome eh?

Either the guy is a gentleman or he wants to get rid of me quick!  Six of one and half a dozen of the other… right now, he is acting like one of my best friends (or at minimum as a person who appreciates my business).  He is another living proof that there are good people everywhere.  Too, having a friendly face on one end makes this stone hauling a lot more fun than one would think!

Not sure if you read Tiny House Ontario Dan, but my hat is off to you!

Live on CJAI

Tiny House Ontario (Laura) will be the guest of CJAI Radio’s show Shannon’s Mixed Tape from 7-9 pm tonight.  CJAI is Canada’s smallest radio station, therefore I think they make a very fitting host for Ontario’s tiniest house dweller.

The station is a little tough to connect to (if you have a Mac) you might need some technical assistance, so if you plan on listening in check in advance for your connection.  If you miss it, don’t worry, it will be a podcast later.  After the show airs and the pod cast is ready I will be sure to post the link.

I already picked out a few tunes… But you will all have to wait and listen for yourselves!

Awesome kids visiting Laura at the Sunday MarketIt has been a busy week!  Here is a photo of some great kids who stopped to watch me paint at the Sunday Antique Market, at Springer Market Square.  It was my fist Sunday market and I really enjoyed it.  When I have not been working the market, I have been visiting with my sister who leaves in two weeks to make her home in Saskatoon.  I have also moved 1.5 tons of limestone shale.

Scary Night and Nice Changes

It has been a very busy week for me, so I have been neglecting updates here simply because I did not have the opportunity to sit in a cafe with an internet connection.

Aside from work I had, what I think was a visit from a bear on Saturday night.  I could hear it, but I could not smell it or see it.   It woke me up with banging and growling and since I was up in the loft I thought it prudent to stay there instead of climbing down to turn on the lights and draw attention to myself.  The good thing is that it went away without incident.  I don’t think it got one of the neighbours chickens which is where it seemed to be.  (Update July 5, 2013: unfortunately two chickens were killed that night.)

In terms of great stuff, one of the awesome things happening at THO is that the fireflies are back!  I know that they come back year after year but every year it surprises me and makes me so happy!

The other awesome thing is that a robin has built her nest a few feet away from the North door on a low branch in the maple tree, and she is nesting, so there will be baby robins soon I hope!

Life is great!

A Very Special Guest

I have lived a few places in my life, and quite a number of people who I love are movers.  This makes me one of those people who have loved ones scattered around the planet.

A couple of years ago when I started this blog, it was so that I could explain in one breath exactly what I was up to (building a tiny house).  One of THO’s most loyal blog followers and certainly one of the friends for whom I started this blog is my sister friend Donna.  We shared a lot of words over a long time when things were a little less easy for both of us.

Well… she is visiting from Jamaica and graced THO (and me) with a visit.   We had a nice lunch, a long drive, and a look around the house and gardens.

Beautiful Donna at THO

You have no idea how much I wanted to keep her… but she has a life elsewhere… She has to get back to it, I know.  Still… you know… I miss her already.
