Changing Flowers

In early September I took a photo of some flowers that were blooming along the edge of the fence at the tiny house.

Carrie's flowers

Tiny House and Porch – The house has a relatively HUGE cloth porch, the perfect place to sit outside but be free of biting insects that are plentiful in the Ontario forest.

When I arrived back four weeks later, on the last day of the month I found that it was fall in the area.  I also found that finally my dahlia had bloomed.  The flower is so huge that the plant could not hold it up, so I posed it for the photo.

The sunflowers were eaten quite some time ago by the little garden thieves but one sole teddybear variety did not become a midnight snack.  I was surprised to find it there, hanging like those in J.E.H MacDonald’s  “the Tangled Garden”. It might be fun to paint this one.  The natural world is alive with change.

Another Angle

A while ago one of my readers asked me why I don’t show other angles of Tiny House Ontario.  The reason is much more simple than you might think.  Just five feet in front of the house begins a thorn bramble.  It runs due East to West and makes stepping far enough away from the house to get a photo sort of tricky.

The bramble is dense.  when I stand on the other side of it in the clearest area about 30 feet from the house, after half of the leaves have fallen this what you can see of the house.   Can you see it???Tiny House Ontario from the South

The Sadies

Thursday night (still in Hamilton with my newly handicapped thumb) I checked out “The Sadies”.  They are an indie band that has been getting a lot of press here in Canada.   Despite the press, I listed to a few if the examples of their work on YouTube and did not find anything that remarkable about them.   Still, I LOVE live music and thought I would splurge on an $18 ticket.

I gotta say, I was LUCKY!  No one will be seeing The Sadies with an $18 ticket soon.  They gave the most powerful performance I have seen since catching Jeff Healey in the early 1990’s.  They are brilliant!

I tried finding some more video of them so that I could give them another listen and I found a video which (in my opinion) does not justice (to their profound greatness).  Even so it is applicable to the tiny house movement and its anti consumer message so I thought I would share it with you.  Note the part when Blue Rodeo is speaking about this song’s ideology… but then, basically they laughingly display that money does not trickle down.  Interesting I thought…

Nothing to do with the tiny house movement but rather just a great video… Here is their Juno Award winning film of a song that will be on their new album (soon being released).  Also this is the sound and at least in part, captures them.

Unfortunately, there is a lack of video that shows the energy of this band.  Each of the four musicians personality and love of music is diverse.  If these guys are coming within a few hundred kilometres of you, run… and I mean run to get tickets!IMG_0461 IMG_0460 IMG_0459 IMG_0458

Empress Wu at THO

When I set out the stone path a couple of weeks ago, I wound up with this lovely corner intersection between the path and the patio.

I am hoping to level the first part of the path where the foundation for it is already properly prepared and then next spring I want to put a showy plant there.  I was thinking that the giant Empress Wu Hostas would look amazing there.

Do you think there is a plant that would look better?  It has to be big, not attract insects, and do well in the shade.

Sanford and Sons

S&S Rock version

Yesterday I hauled in a couple of loads of rocks.  I think I have all that is required to finish the job.  It does however look a little like Sanford and Sons… the quarry version.  There is so much work to this job!  I have a new found respect for the persons who do this work for a living.

I imagine I still have about four more days of work to do just to get the rest of the patio level.  One of these will be unhooking the solar connection to the house at the battery, laying the stone and then hooking it all up again.

It is a lot of work, but it is worth it.  I think it gives THO a very enchanting appearance despite the mess of extra stones.
