I have been painting like a mad woman since yesterday morning. There are many changes that have taken place on the THO painting since yesterday, so I thought I would share for anyone who is interested. It is quite insane how much paint it takes to cover such a huge painting.
I am going to let it dry now before I make the colours all muddy. Plus, I must stand under warm water and I have to prepare for tonight’s writer’s meeting.

After the Art Crawl on Friday I decided to try my hand at a big canvas. So I bought one and I am painting again today – a HUGE 48×36 inch canvas of THO. I have only filled in the background colours so far. Not sure where I will go from here and when I finish, where I can hang this at the Tiny House? Perhaps as a headboard? I dunno? Will it fit up the stairs? LOL!
Before I left Tiny House Ontario, I took a couple of photos inside the house. It always surprises me how much changes there during the day. Not just out in the forest as one would expect but inside of the house too there is always the flux of change.
My art gallery stays pretty much the same because I very rarely sell a piece of my own work. Still I hang them on tiny nails so I don’t damage the wooden walls very much, so they wobble with the wind and are very rarely level. Too, inside, with the switch and the light that I added this year, the wall looks different than it did earlier this summer when I put them up. Outside the window, the gravel is waiting patiently and settling in. The big change will come next year when the collected rocks are added and this becomes a flag stone patio.
The shelved wall is always fluid. From the season that needs heat to the other seasons there is a huge change because all things that freeze are moved to Hamilton with me. Also there are books that come too, because I can’t live the whole winter without them, namely: Erazim Kohák: The Embers and the Stars, Julia Cameron: The Artist’s Way and all of my own writing. The other change is warmth and peace of mind in the form of the heater and the carbon monoxide/smoke detector.
There are always little changes too because I refer to the books, use the games, light the candles, burn the sage and so on. Every tiny thing moves, because life moves and changes. We too move and change, sometimes these are obvious glaring differences like a move to Australia, finishing a degree, finally finding job security, illness and death.
Most of the time, change is barely perceptible; like the changes I refer to here in the photos. Only those who monitor change can see them clearly. I am the sort of person who notices subtle changes and this is why I know that in my life there is a shift happening. I see this as clearly as I see that I did not put the bag of seeds and the candle away in the right spots on the shelves below. I don’t know the impact of these changes, but I know that they are coming.

Last night I went to a poetry reading in Kingston. I was caught in the pouring rain which came to us at the tail end of the Issac storm. I knew I would get wet but I went through it anyway. To tell you the truth it was sort of fun! There was lots of water so it was a bit like a ride at a water park.
We have had so little rain this year that I was glad to see it come. It was nice to be soaked right to the skin. Thing is that when I arrived I ran right in and only at the half time break when I wanted to get a card from my purse (tucked safely in my trunk) did I run back out in the rain again.
Turns out, my truck did not lock properly and it was gaping open when I went out. The trunk was filled right to the top with water – about 6 inches deep. The terrible thing about this, is that my camera and my Mac laptop were both totally submerged. SUBMERGED.
Worse… My laptop had the only copy of the draft of my novel on it. Plus all other writing outside of this blog. Over a year of my writing disolved like sugar in tea.
I have brought it in to see if they can recover the data but I am not very hopeful. I am sitting now at the public library posting. I have huge tears rolling down my cheeks as I write and I feel like I have been kicked really hard in the stomach.

UPDATE: After writing this – I remembered that I printed a hard copy of my novel, two months ago, so even with the data lost I can type it again! Feeling like I can breathe again….
I just got my art work back from a show in Kingston when the men were coming to put up the steel. There was a whole box of them, plus I had more here that I had stacked on a shelf. Because there is not a lot of space at Tiny House Ontario, I decided to put my work up on the walls. So, Tiny House Ontario is doubling as a Teeny-Tiny-Gallery.
I also have a new and wonderful painting from the Kingston artist Geoff Smith. I have not shown it to you yet, because I have not yet decided on a frame. None-the-less, if you come to see my paintings at Tiny House, I will give you a sneak peek of Geoff’s beautiful work.
I found it inspiring to have a home gallery. So much so, that despite my having men there putting up steel, that I started a new painting which is sort of abstract.
